Shoulder Arthroscopy
Charlotte, NC

Minimally invasive arthroscopic shoulder surgery — small incisions, camera-guided precision, faster recovery than open surgery.

What is Shoulder Arthroscopy?

Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique in which a small camera (arthroscope) and specialized instruments are inserted through tiny incisions — typically less than 1 centimeter — to diagnose and treat problems inside the shoulder joint.

Because the incisions are small and the surrounding muscles and tissues are not cut, arthroscopic surgery results in significantly less post-operative pain, lower infection risk, faster recovery, and excellent cosmetic outcomes compared to traditional open surgery.

Conditions Treated Arthroscopically

Labrum Tears (Bankart)

Repair of the labrum following shoulder dislocation to prevent recurrent instability.

SLAP Tears

Superior labrum repair for overhead athletes and active patients with deep shoulder pain.

Shoulder Impingement

Removal of bone spurs and bursa to create more space for the rotator cuff.

Rotator Cuff Repair

Small and medium rotator cuff tears repaired through arthroscopic technique.

Biceps Tenodesis

Treatment for biceps tendon tears causing anterior shoulder pain.

Loose Body Removal

Removal of loose cartilage fragments causing catching and locking.

What to Expect

Shoulder arthroscopy is performed as an outpatient procedure under general or regional (nerve block) anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 45–90 minutes depending on what is being treated. You go home the same day.

Recovery varies by procedure — from 2–4 weeks for a simple debridement to 4–6 months for a labrum repair. Dr. Vasileff provides a detailed rehabilitation protocol specific to your procedure at discharge.
